We got kohlrabi as part of our CSA the last two times, and I found this amazing recipe for Quick Kohlrabi Pickles! (The second time I made it I tried slicing them into skinny slices rather than cubes and think they are even more delicious that way.)

Here in this TINY ASS TOWN we have a wal-mart that has a good selection of rather obscure foodstuffs (obscure to the locals, anyhow) and I am glad for it. I am not sure how to feel about it - being that wal-mart is bringing the locals culture and not the locals themselves, but hey, it's a start. Anyway - I saw these tonight and was happy to see things I recognize and miss.

I was introduced to Kolrabi when my housemate planted it in the garden in Arizona. This slices is the way to go, with just a bit of salt and pepper.

Also mix thin slivers with roasted beets and touch of red wine vinegar.

Now I am in CA and trying to figure out what to plant in the backyard. Wish me luck.
